Aluminum center acts as a heat sink to reduce brake disc temperature
High-performance brake discs that separate the stainless steel outer layer from the center,
preventing deformation at high temperatures
Thickness is what sets this version of the LEWIS X-Power apart. At 2.3mm it keeps the floating layout of its 2.0mm sibling, with a CNC 420 stainless steel outer and an aluminum center, but adds material at each of the 200mm, 203mm and 220mm sizes.
Does your caliper have room for 2.3mm?
Answer this before anything else, because thicker rotors may not fit every caliper. Look up the rotor thickness your brake accepts, and with pads fitted check that the disc can pass between them without rubbing, since a tight 2.3mm X-Power will drag however good the rest of the setup is.
When the extra thickness starts to make sense
As a general guide, thicker rotors are chosen for heat handling and rotor life, at the cost of some extra mass. Without comparison figures for the two X-Power thicknesses, let your riding decide: hard, repeated stops lean toward 2.3mm, and lighter use leaves room for the 2.0mm.
Heat management in a floating X-Power rotor
The aluminum center is stated to act as a heat sink, and separating the stainless steel outer layer from it is aimed at preventing deformation at high temperatures. That applies across this floating disc design, so the 2.3mm choice adds to that logic rather than replacing it.
- Hub: 44mm BCD, stated for MTB wheel hubs.
- Caliper: confirm it accepts a 2.3mm rotor.
- Pads: fit fresh ones with a new X-Power and bed them in with care.
- Mounts: 203mm and 220mm usually call for a different adapter than smaller rotors.
- Fasteners: ask whether mounting bolts come with the rotor, and have suitable ones ready.
Clear the caliper question first, then choose your diameter from the three sizes this thicker X-Power comes in for your mountain bike.
