Aluminum center acts as a heat sink to reduce brake disc temperature
High-performance brake discs that separate the stainless steel outer layer from the center,
preventing deformation at high temperatures
X-Power rotor weight: 323g (220x2.0mm)
A floating rotor splits the job of braking and the job of holding on, and the LEWIS X-Power at 2.0mm follows that layout. Its CNC 420 stainless steel outer is separated from an aluminum center, with a 44mm BCD for MTB wheel hubs and sizes of 200mm, 203mm and 220mm.
What the aluminum center is there to do
The aluminum center acts as a heat sink to reduce brake disc temperature, and separating it from the stainless steel outer layer is aimed at preventing deformation at high temperatures. That makes the 2.0mm X-Power one to consider when long descents are what heat up your brakes.
Reasons to choose 2.0mm over 2.3mm
The 2.3mm X-Power shares this layout and these diameters, so thickness is the deciding point. At 2.0mm you carry less material, and the thicker version adds more, but your caliper gets the first vote, because the rotor has to sit cleanly between the pads at either thickness.
Moving to 203mm or 220mm on your mountain bike
A larger rotor usually needs a different adapter, so look at your frame and fork mounts before picking a size. As a general guide, more diameter adds leverage and braking surface, and the 200mm X-Power is the simpler step for a bike already set up near that size.
- Construction: floating disc design, not one solid piece.
- Hub check: 44mm BCD on your MTB wheel hub.
- Caliper check: your brake accepts a 2.0mm rotor.
- Adapter check: 203mm and 220mm may need a different one.
- Existing 203mm setup: a same-size X-Power avoids an adapter change.
If heat is your concern and your caliper is happy at 2.0mm, the X-Power is a clear candidate, so confirm the fit checks and then settle on a diameter.
