LEWIS LHP S4 Axial Cylinder 4-Piston Hydraulic Disc Brake with Cooling Fins for Downhill & Enduro

Heat is the problem the LEWIS LHP S4 sets out to manage, using independent cooling fins and insulated pistons on an axial, four-piston brake. It is meant for downhill and enduro riding, and it asks a little more of you at setup than a plain lever does.

Where the fins and insulation come in

The fins are there for better heat dissipation at high temperatures, and each stainless steel piston carries an insulation layer. Both matter most on long descents, when pads stay hot for longer between stops.

Setting leverage ratio with the knob and set screws

This is the adjustment that differs most from a simple brake. Loosen the set screws with a 1.5mm Allen key, turn the adjustment knob until the lever suits you, and tighten the screws again before riding.

Getting the clamp right on the bar

The split clamp locks at both the upper and lower bolts, which helps it sit properly on bars with different tolerances. Use the 3Nm torque given for it, then set reach without tools and bite point with a 2mm Allen key.

TP-37 or LP-37 pads for your conditions

The pad options are sintered TP-37 and resin LP-37. Decide which one suits your riding, and keep spares of that same code in your kit.

• LEWIS 2.3mm rotors, or 2.0mm to 2.5mm from another brand
• Black braided T200 hose, 5mm outside with a 2.2mm bore
• Hoses at 90cm front and 160cm rear on 1 finger levers

Bleed with mineral oil using the LEWIS Bleeding Kit, and treat rotors and adapters as a separate purchase. Removable olives in the connector make later hose work simpler.
