LEWIS AX 18+20mm 4-Piston Hydraulic Disc Brake with Triple Adjustments for Downhill & Enduro

Changing lever feel at the trailhead usually means digging out a tool. On the LEWIS AX, both reach and bite point turn by hand, and that convenience sits on an axial brake with 2x18mm and 2x20mm pistons for downhill and enduro riding.

Turning bite point and reach by hand

The bite point knob changes lever free play without any tools, and a separate knob moves the lever toward or away from the bar. That makes it practical to try a setting on one run and change it before the next.

Leverage ratio is the one that needs a tool

A 1.5mm Allen key loosens the two set screws, and the ratio knob then sets your braking feel. Tighten the screws afterwards, and treat this as a change you make at home and not a trail fix.

Buying the right pads and hose run

This monobloc caliper uses sintered EP-44 or carbon ceramic VP-44 pads, so buy one of those two and do not assume another LEWIS pad fits. Hoses come at 110cm front and 180cm rear, longer than many brakes in the range, which helps on long bikes and leaves room to route them cleanly.

The fins target better high temperature performance. Bleed with mineral oil using the LEWIS Bleeding Kit, and order a rotor and matching adapter at the same time, since neither is part of the brake.

Lever Reach Adjustment Knob

By rotating the lever reach adjustment knob, you can adjust the distance between the brake lever and the handlebar.

Bite point Adjustment Knob

Without using any tools, you can adjust the brake lever free play by turning the adjustment knob.

Leverage Ratio Adjustment

Loosen the lever ratio set screws and adjust the Lever ratio by turning the lever ratio adjustment knob.

Tighten the set screws after adjustments.

Turn the lever ratio adjustment knob to adjust the brake lever ratio to get a braking feel that suits you.
