LEWIS Low-noise semi-metallic brake pads
RP-30: for LEWIS LV2, BB2, SL, SLR (2 pistons calipers)
Material: semi metallic
Section width: 30mm
Weight (a pair): 20g
Less pad noise is what the LEWIS RP-30 offers a rider on two-piston LEWIS brakes. It is a low-noise semi metallic pad with a 30mm section width, for LV2, BB2, SL and SLR calipers.
When a noisy LEWIS SL or LV2 brake points to RP-30
Picture a quiet trail and a LEWIS SL or LV2 brake that squeals at every stop. If the rotor is clean and the caliper aligned, the pad compound is the next thing to look at, and that is where RP-30 comes in. Deal with any oil or brake fluid first, because as a general rule contaminated pads and rotors will not recover through a pad change alone.
Checking the old pad against a 30mm section width
Pull the worn pad from your LEWIS caliper and measure it, because RP-30 has a 30mm section width and a wider pad points to a different code. Riders generally weigh semi metallic compounds between resin and sintered metallic on noise and heat.
Only one RP size, so check the piston count
There is no RP code for four-piston brakes, which keeps the decision simple. If your LEWIS caliper has two pistons and carries one of the four model names, the RP-30 is the pad to consider, and if not, look through the LEWIS series named for your brake.
- Two-piston LEWIS LV2, BB2, SL or SLR: RP-30 is the matching pad.
- Old pad wider than 30mm: recheck the brake model before buying RP-30.
- LEWIS LV4 or LH4: RP-30 does not name these brakes.
- Noise that survives a rotor clean and caliper alignment: the point where a low-noise RP-30 makes most sense.
- Fresh RP-30 pads: bed them in gently, as is usual for new pads, before judging the noise.
Fit the semi metallic RP-30 against a clean rotor on one of those two-piston LEWIS calipers, and judge the noise once the pads are bedded in.
