LEWIS AE Brake Service Kit for AE Lever and Caliper

Two bore sizes set the AE caliper apart, and this service kit reflects that with separate parts for its 14mm and 17mm pistons. Every part has both a code and a plain name, so you always know what you are holding.

Keeping 14mm and 17mm parts apart

Two HNBR piston seals and one bore cap seal go with each bore size. Label the bores before taking pistons out, then install each pair only where it belongs. A seal on the wrong bore will not do its job, so double-check the size on the code line before pressing anything home.

What the AE lever end calls for

Nine items serve the lever: the piston body, piston sleeve, three sleeve seals, the front and rear piston seals, a spring, a diaphragm, a set screw and an oil port O-ring. Because the sleeve is held by that set screw, take care with it and set it aside somewhere safe, as general workshop practice suggests.

Small rings that are easy to overlook

Two banjo fix screw O-rings and one caliper oil port O-ring round out the kit. They are small and quick to skip, yet the hydraulic connections depend on them. Replace them while the brake is open, since there is little point resealing the pistons and leaving old rings at the banjo.

AE parts versus the AX kit

The AX kit uses different bore sizes, and only a few small-part codes carry over, so check the model name on your brake. If you are unsure, the kit notes recommend consulting before you make a purchase.
