- Works with all LEWIS brake models, on mineral oil or DOT fluid.
When a lever turns soft, this kit gives you the hardware to bleed the brake yourself: syringes, hoses, an oil container with base, gloves, three caliper blocks and M5 fittings. Bring your own fluid, since it leaves out both mineral oil and DOT.
Before buying: which fluid does your brake use?
Your brake decides this, not the kit, so check the manual or a marking on the reservoir first. Mineral oil and DOT fluid do not mix, and as a general rule you should keep one set of hoses and syringes for each.
Choosing the right caliper block
Three blocks come in the kit: a four-piston caliper block, a LEWIS two-piston block and a caliper block for Shimano road bikes. Match the block to your caliper, count the pistons, and seat it fully with the pads out. If none sits right, stop and check before pumping the lever.
Matching fittings to your bleed port
The quick-release metal adapter and both olive metal fittings are labeled M5, and no other size is mentioned. Check your bleed port against that, because a loose or forced fitting can leak or damage threads. No brakes are named for the kit, so ask before ordering if your port looks different.
Setting up the bench before a bleed
Seat the chosen block with the pads out, then lay out the M5 adapter, olive fittings, hoses and syringes, and keep the oil container, hose clamp and gloves within reach. The kit gives no bleed steps, so follow your brake manual for the order of work.
