Torque discipline is the real skill behind any titanium bolt swap, and this kit helps by giving a value and a tool for each of its eight bolts, with the washer going on alongside the caliper mounting bolt. Have a torque driver ready before you start, since several of these are small fasteners with narrow ranges.
Tools to gather for each position
You will need a T10 Torx for the oil plug and reservoir cap, a T15 Torx for the banjo and lever blade, a 3mm hex for the two clamp bolts, a 5mm hex for the caliper mounting bolt and a T30 Torx for the caliper set bolt. Check that each tip fits snugly before turning, because a worn driver can damage a soft head.
A sensible order for changing brake hardware
Start with the bolts that do not touch the hydraulic system, such as the clamp and lever blade positions, and leave the banjo, oil plug and caliper set bolts until you have a bleed planned. Disturbing those can let oil out or air in. As general advice, swap one bolt at a time so that nothing gets mixed up.
Reading the LHP-U4, LHP-S4 and LH4 fit
The kit is named for LHP-U4, LHP-S4 and LH4 brakes, and the U4 also appears as LHP+ U4. Check the model on your own lever. Thread size, bolt length and piece counts are not stated, so ask about those before ordering, and ask which finish is supplied if you want Oil Slick.
- Banjo bolt: 4-5N·m
- Lever blade, oil plug, reservoir cap and clamp bolts: 2-3N·m
- Caliper mounting bolt: 6-8N·m, fitted with its washer
- Caliper set bolt: 17N·m
- Brake fluid and bleed tools are separate items
Titanium rewards a light, measured hand, so go by the stated N·m figures and not by feel, and recheck the mounting bolts after your first short ride.
